Why grade

A graded card is a different asset.

Grading turns a loose card into a certified, protected, higher-value collectible — the difference is real, and it's permanent.

  • Unlock the valueHigh-grade cards regularly sell for multiples of the same card raw.
  • Lock in conditionSealed in a tamper-proof slab, protected from bends, scratches and time.
  • Prove it's realEvery card is authenticated and certified — no doubt, no fakes.
  • Show it offA slabbed grade is the ultimate flex, and registry-worthy for collectors.
The scale

From a 1 to a perfect 10.

Graders score a card out of 10 on its overall condition. The closer to a flawless 10, the higher the grade — and the value.

What graders look at

Four things decide your grade.

  • CenteringHow evenly the artwork sits within the borders, front and back.
  • CornersSharp and clean, or soft, rounded and dinged.
  • EdgesSmooth and whitening-free along every side.
  • SurfaceFree of scratches, print lines, dents and holo scuffing.

Tip: hold a card at an angle under good light before you submit — most surface and edge wear only shows up that way.

Good to know

Grading questions, answered.

What is card grading?

Grading is when an independent expert authenticates your card and scores its condition on a scale up to 10, then seals it in a tamper-proof slab showing that grade. It protects the card forever and gives buyers a trusted, universal measure of quality.

What are PSA, CGC and BGS?

They’re the three major grading companies. PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) is the most recognised and usually carries the strongest resale value, especially for Pokémon. CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) is known for fast, consistent grading of modern cards. BGS (Beckett Grading Services) is known for detailed sub-grades on centering, corners, edges and surface. GradeIT can submit to all three.

What is a PSA 10, or “Gem Mint”?

A 10, or Gem Mint, is the top grade: a card that’s as close to flawless as possible, with near-perfect centering, sharp corners, clean edges and a spotless surface. Gem Mint cards command by far the biggest premium.

Should I grade my card, or keep it raw?

Grade it if the card is in strong condition and has real value or demand, since a high grade can multiply its worth. If it’s low-value or heavily played, keeping it raw usually makes more sense. Not sure? Bring it in and we’ll help you decide.

How long does grading take?

Expect roughly 80 to 120 days depending on the company and service, since the cards travel overseas and back. Times are estimates and shift with demand.
